Makom Families
Introducing Makom Families
As Makom continues to grow, we are excited to introduce “Makom Families,” Makom programming geared toward kids and families. The goals of Makom Families are twofold: to create community among downtown Jewish families with kids and to provide quality activities and programs held at family-friendly times.
Makom Families hopes to meet about once a month, and we will be sending an email several weeks prior to inform you of each event. As well, events will be listed in Makom’s weekly email and on Makom’s Google calendar. We are very open to program ideas and suggestions, as well as individuals willing to lend a hand with the program organizing. Sign up for our mailing list here.
We look forward to seeing you soon,
Lisa Rosen and Miriam Kramer, Co-Chairs, Makom Families
Makom Families announcements…
NEW SPOTS OPEN in Downtown Jewish PLAY SCHOOL
Kindergarten – Grade 2 | Now – June 15 | 3:30-5:30pm @ College & Spadina
We are delighted to announce that Makom’s Downtown Jewish Play School was just granted permission to expand beyond our original number of participants. Beginning the week of January 9th, we’ll have a few new spots for children who are interested in enrolling in our unique after-school program.
Play School is hosted in a public school at College and Spadina from 3:30 to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday during the school year and consists of three days of Hebrew language immersion (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) and two days of creative and substantive Jewish education (Mondays and Thursdays). The program is geared to children already enrolled in kindergarten through grade 2. Children can attend either the 2 days of Jewish education, 3 days of Hebrew immersion, or all 5 days per week.
Jewish learning is play-based and teaches Jewish traditions in a pluralistic and inclusive fashion, fostering creativity and independent thinking, spirituality, an appreciation for nature and outdoors (including lots of physical activity), and Jewish ethics and values (including social and environmental issues). Hebrew language learning is immersive—akin to ulpan—and consists of arts and crafts, playing outdoors, drama and sports, all in Hebrew.
For more information about the program, including fees, please contact Sharry ASAP via email or 416 529-0379.
