Downtown Jewish Playschool
Makom’s Downtown Jewish Playschool is an innovative, alternative after-school program for children in JK through Grade 2, hosted in a local public school (near College & Spadina) through the school year. Children in the downtown core attend their neighbourhood public (or other) school and also gain a high-quality Jewish education and a warm Jewish peer community. Daily sessions and a small class size provide real continuity and growth opportunities for students while also meeting the after-school childcare needs of working parents.
Founded by parents in 2011, DJP has become a welcome alternative for Jewish and interfaith families looking for after-care and a jumpstart on their children’s Jewish education. Our children love the program. Newcomers are welcomed into the Makom family and quickly integrated into the classroom.
Many families in Toronto cannot afford the costs of a formal Jewish education or choose not to take this approach to their children’s learning path. We fill this gap.
As we enter our 4th year, we’re expanding to midtown Toronto – our second location will welcome students this September for the 2014-15 school year.
